Cupertino, Santa Clara County
Cupertino takes its name from a creek that the Anza expedition of 1776 named for Saint Joseph of Cupertino. The crossroads was orchard and vineyard country until the 1950s, and it incorporated in 1955. De Anza College, opened in 1967, occupies a former winery estate, and vineyards still cling to Monte Bello Ridge in the hills above the city.
